In my team project class we are working on a game called BlockFormer. It is a puzzle game where the user controls different tools to solve a path through the level. These are some concepts I came up with for an urban environment. I used a light and dark background to show their luminosity in different enviroments. Sorry for the poor quality, I will resize them in photoshop and then upload them again the next chance I get.
The light and dark background was a great way to emphasize the idea you had for the luminosity of the objects. Also, I especially like how the plant becomes a much more solid looking object in the dark. It sort-of-plays against the norm.
